Writing Quality: This is a good solid story and reminiscent of The Shining and The Conjuring 2. I really like Ryan Reynolds (George), but it was a bit chilling to see him play a possessed man! Scare Factor: A few jump scares, but more frightening are the popups of the house's history with Jody and Ronnie and the way George descends into madness--he's a terrifying father!

Content (sex, language, & violence): One sex scene, revealing underwear, see the top of her chest and her backside. Some hard language scattered throughout. Extreme violence due to the volatile behavior of the dad and the demonic presence. The movie gets a bit grisly in the end.

Values: The bond of family, the unity of marriage. Seeking to protect from evil and endure the severe adversities.

Acting: Good.

Bonuses: Chloe Grace Moretz--I saw her first in If I Stay and Diary of a Wimpy Kid, so it was sweet to see her as a little girl. And then Jesse James (Billy) who played little Spence in As Good As It Gets was a welcome addition as the 12-year-old son--sweet and reminiscent of Leaf Phoenix (Joaquin) in his Parenthood role.
