Teenager Chad longs for love and he is willing to kill for it. I was immersed in this story about a lonely young man who will do anything for Angelique, his "angel" whom he knows only from a distance because of the fear that keeps him from talking to her. It is amazing what RJ Conte does with such little dialogue. This stream of conscious spiritual read is intensely poignant. Chad is dark, sardonic, and emotional. His brooding mental state will capture your soul as it displays the inner turmoil he is constantly battling as a "demon". Conte takes teenage angst and dips it in a painful abyss of agony that is startling and tragic and intense all at once. She uses Chad's emotional, mental, and spiritual pain in unforgettable transforming ways. The poetry is raw and spell-binding as it manifests the height of Chad's darkness. And then the use of scripture is unobtrusive and beautiful the way it enters Chad's life as he longs for love. I was drawn inside his mind and into his heart throughout the entire read, which means that I felt the intense desperation down into my very bones.
