I have listened to Lecrae for years and I have used his songs in my classroom; his music has changed some of my students' lives in incredibly spiritual ways. This memoir is for everyone. It's about pain: sexual abuse and its grip, abandonment and its long-term afflictions, loneliness and the prison of internalization. I cried for Lecrae, for all of the abuse and how it isolated him, how he struggled between living for Christ and living for the world. His account is real. It showcases the truth of the struggle behind the secret yearning to be accepted, to be appreciated, to just be loved. He shared the stuff of nightmares. His story deals with all of the things that most of us don't want to admit to ourselves, much less to anyone else, those dark truths that keep us in chains. But he shows us something even greater, that when we submit the darkness to the Light, God sets us free.
