A bit like his other novel Sati, this 'strange girl' remains just as mysterious. What makes this story different, though, is Aja's desire to be with Fred and the feel of a young adult tale with the high school setting and Fred's group of friends.
Pike delves into the religious and mystical through various characters in an attempt to explain who Aja is, where she comes from, what she's doing here, and why she picked Fred. The reasons are thought-provoking and sweet all at once.
