A Woman Alone

Laurin is an excellent writer that knows how to keep you sitting tensely in your seat, salivating at every page. Such an incredibly crazy world she presents where everything in the house is controlled by your house and the house knows everything about you and your neighbors. The whole concept works very well. And her writing style is so compelling.

***SPOILERS

But there is some confusion about some of the characters. Like who is the man with the scarring, and why is he scarred? And Taryn's demonic behavior isn't explained very well or realistically. And why does Cecilia's mom change so drastically at the end? Or giving money to her ex? Or exactly the sense behind what one person has Cecilia do in the last 1/3 of the book. And when, exactly, did she tell him about Taryn? So many things that aren't clearly expounded.

As much as I was drawn into her style of writing, I was super surprised by the ending--very well done in that respect, she doesn't clearly explain the plausibility of it. I also didn't appreciate the final tone of it. So, shocking twist but cynical message.
