Cape Refuge

An incredibly rich mystery suspense!! Blackstock's word is packed with complex plots and subplots and fascinating characters that grow in amazing and believable ways. This is realistic fiction more than anything, and she writes it well. I did believe one person was responsible for the deaths due to his anger and intense reactions, and seriously questioned his Christianity; I don't believe the author intended you to doubt him, but it created an issue for me later when I was supposed to trust him. There is also a discrepancy with one of the character's mom being in the hospital with pneumonia and then a few pages later not being ill with pneumonia, so that confused me.

Outside of these two areas, the story is credible and ripe with so many important themes. The dynamic of what Christ can do for others is huge here, and regardless if you are a Christian or not, you will be in awe over the incredible power of God's Love, even through the most grim circumstances. That message alone will draw you into this intricate world of realistic and relatable characters.
