Beneath (2007) is an interesting MTV piece. Twenty-something Vanessa lets her fourteen-year old Christy take the wheel of her car for fun, but soon they wind up in a horrific accident that leaves Vanessa horribly burned. Six months later, Vanessa dies and Christy starts experiencing psychological trauma and visions that leave her to believe that her sister is still alive. When Christy returns to her hometown six years later, her sister's husband, John, and his mother act standoffish toward her, and Amy, John and Vanessa's eight year old daughter shares her troubling secret with she sees a "dark thing" and that it comes into her room at night.
This film has a lot of mystery to it and it's viscerally captured by Christy's constant visions, these sudden flashes of her John's mom and Claire Wells, Vanessa's assisting physician, and John, all of them with rage across their faces. And Christy continues to "see" Vanessa scratching at what looks like a muddy coffin lid, screaming to get out. Why? What is going on? Why is everyone acting so strange?

Writers Kevin Burke and Dagen Merrill have concocted a mystery thriller with a twinge of horror and a number of surprises in the end that spill across the screen in a sudden montage of unforeseen revelations.
