Ayush Raina's film is an interesting twist on the genre in some ways. First, the film is more psychologically scary than horrific. Second, the seven friends are your normal next door neighbor variety and break the stereotypes of the hysterical, sexually charged, or downright stupid characters in refreshing ways. For the most part, they act as a single unit, though, of course, they decided to split up at times--not a smart move. Haven't they seen scary movies? Third, the sound effects and music are outstanding! Spooky, atmospheric, and uniquely compelling in their own right.
This is an Indian film, so there are subtitles, though the characters do speak English intermittently. Some characters speak a bit too fast, so you have to pay careful attention. Nonetheless, the actors are pretty natural feeling and the guy who plays Achint ( Nishant Malkani ) is particularly vibrant in his role, playing out his fear in credible ways.
This is a step away from many tropes and entertaining. The acting is decent, the music incredibly original and eerie, and the story well played out.
