Holy Cow. This movie is way more disturbing than I remember it being. My younger self must have created a protective gear because I only remember three scenes--what happens to Gage in the beginning, Rachel's sister, and the final scene. For a Stephen King film, this has got to be his bloodiest and creepiest. I don't care for gore, and this movie has a bit too much of it, and more than that, the scenes are brief but very graphic. If you have ever scene The Shining, Misery, Cujo or Christine, for instance, you won't find grueling depictions framed the way they are here. And Rachel's sister is by far one of the most disturbing characters you will have etched into your brain. The whole tone throughout is faithless, surprising me because King does have faith, and hopeless. The only character who seems to have any sense is the little girl, Ellie, but as all scary movies typically go, no one listens to her, much less pay attention to her prophetic dreams. This is a story about a man who becomes so desperate, he allows that desperation to overshadow any common sense. Dire consequences, at their worst, surface. Pun intended, the movie constantly drips with blood and horrifying scares.
