Fun & Meaningful

Jessica Rothe has become one of my favorite actors. Just like herself in the first Happy Death Day, she shines a light of hilarity and fun in this entertaining sequel.

Character Development/Writing Quality: Great character development; of course, Tree's memory has a catalogue of her eleven deaths, but this only makes her character more appealing as she is willing to do whatever it takes to get all of them out of this mysterious time loop of multiverses.

Values: Again, as in the first one, we get the importance of romantic loyalty and parent honoring.

Content (sex, language & violence): No sex, but one character glimpses at a girl's chest--the girl immediately reprimands him; a character repeats his offbeat reference to sexual intimacy. Five-ten uses of language, but not for shock value, just to express the stress of the moment. Violence is seen with the deaths, but it is very light and quick with no gore (minus one deliberately funny scene).

Scare Factor/Suspense: Not as much "scary" as the first one. Instead, the film feels more like a mystery with some tender moments and comedic punches. Instead of suspense, we get more action and sci-fi moments.

I was pleasantly surprised by the number of returning cast members. They all brought a fun nostalgic gesture to the first film. There are many surprising twists in this one, and a special memorable appearance by one of the characters. And there are a few moments where the importance of choice, faith, and endurance are explored, bringing a deeper layer of meaning to an otherwise fun mystery.

Fun Quote: "How can I be as dumb as a rock? Rocks don't have brains".
